Release: November 1, 2004
Lyrics:
2 AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake
"Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?
I don't love him, Winter just wasn't my season"
Yeah, we walk through the doors, so accusing, their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize
Hypocrites, you're all here for the very same reason
'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe, just breathe
Oh, breathe, just breathe
May, he turn twenty-one on the base at Fort Bliss
"Just a day, " he said down to the flask in his fist
Ain't been sober since maybe October of last year
Here in town, you can tell he's been down for a while
But, my God, it's so beautiful when the boy smiles
Wanna hold him, maybe I'll just sing about it
'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, boys
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe, just breathe
Oh, breathe, just breathe
"There's a light at each end of this tunnel" you shout
"'Cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again"
If you only try turning around
2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
'Cause these words are my diary screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them however you want to
But you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand
And breathe, just breathe
Oh, breathe, just breathe
Songwriter: Anna Nalick
Oh, breathe, just breathe
Oh, breathe, just breathe
Oh-oh, oh-oh
Oh-oh, oh-oh
Oh-oh, oh, oh

Andrew Gold - Spooky, Scary Skeletons 1996
Andrew Maurice Gold was an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and record producer who influenced much of the Los Angeles-dominated pop/soft rock sound in the 1970s. Gold performed on scores of records by other artists, especially Linda Ronstadt, and had his own success with the US top 40 hits "Lonely Boy" (1977) and "Thank You for Being a Friend" (1978) (which was later used as the opening theme for The Golden Girls), as well as the UK top five hit "Never Let Her Slip Away" (1978). In the 1980s, he had further international chart success as one half of the new wave duo Wax. During the 1990s, Gold produced, composed, performed on and wrote tracks for films, commercials, and television soundtracks.
"Spooky, Scary Skeletons" is a Halloween song, first released on Gold's 1996 album Halloween Howls: Fun & Scary Music. It was one of nine original songs on the album, released to fill a void of availability of fun and scary Halloween original songs according to Gold on his 1996 liner notes. He produced, mixed, sang and played all the instruments on the track. It prominently features a xylophone to represent the sound of skeletal bones rattling.
In 1998, Disney included the song on their VHS tape Disney's Sing-Along Songs: Happy Haunting: Party at Disneyland! (which was released on DVD as Disney's Sing-Along Songs: Happy Haunting in 2006). They paired the song with the 1929 animated short film The Skeleton Dance by Ub Iwerks. The video has garnered over 31 million views since it was recreated and uploaded by a Youtube user. On October 31, 2013, the Youtube band The Living Tombstone created an electronic dance-like remix of the song with a faster tempo than the original. Their upload of the remix to YouTube has garnered over 102 million views. By 2022, there were over 5 million TikTok videos featuring the song. “Spooky, Scary Skeletons” was adapted into a children's picture book by Random House Children's Books featuring the lyrics to the song on August 27, 2024.
"Spooky, Scary Skeletons" received a total of 90% yes votes!

I remember a friend of mine had some LPs that were Star Wars themed disco albums, and it brought back a very weird memory from back in the 70s (yes, I'm old!) of listening to a Star Wars disco mashup on the radio. What was all that about? I also remember something like that for Close Encounters, too.
Tumblr media
You remember correctly, and this went on for a long while. In 1983, disk jockeys around the country played a record that involved an Ewok rapping the plot of Return of the Jedi in Ewokese. This made it to #60 in the Billboard Top 100.
youtube
This is hard to explain to people who weren’t there….but in the wake of Star Wars in the late 70s and early 80s, scifi was so beloved and mainstream that the orchestral music for nerdy scifi and fantasy movies about outer space were remixed and sampled into Giorgio Moroder-esque Italo-Disco dance numbers. And the most astonishing thing is, instead of being consigned to convention acts the way “horse famous” Brony dubstep acts are, this received national airplay on the radio, reached the pop music charts, and were played in discotheques. And incredibly, this continued for years and expanded from Star Wars into Star Trek, Wizard of Oz, Black Hole, Close Encounters….
All of this was the work of one specific person: Meco (or Dominico Monardo). The term “ahead of their time” is thrown around a lot, but Meco really was: a combination producer-songwriter and Italo-Disco pioneer in the style of Giorgio Moroder, he did several things that are now absolutely standard: he used remixes and sampling before hiphop made that standard for musicians, he wrote “fandom music” on a Moog synthesizer decades before Bronies turned their conventions into cringey dubstep concerts with songs like “Everypony Dance Now.”
It's stunning to me that Meco has not been rediscovered, considering every single trend in the culture essentially went his way.
Tumblr media
The most startling thing about Meco’s Star Wars disco album, the one that got the ball rolling on this trend, is this: I always assumed it was some kind of cash in created by a record label mandate, a label executive’s completely cynical choice to hop on a hot new trend. That isn’t a crazy thing to think at all, since Star Wars is and always has been the most merchandized and sold out scifi property ever. But it wasn’t! You see, it was all the product of a single man’s specific vision: Meco had to convince his record label to make the record because they were skeptical.
Tumblr media
When Meco went to see Star Wars in 1977 on Opening Day (what an experience that must have been) with his friend and fellow Italian chest hair/gold medallion enthusiast Tony Bongiovi, he was already an experienced producer-songwriter who had worked with Gloria Gaynor, Diana Ross, and formed DCA, the Disco Corporation of America. If you've ever listened to Diana Ross's "I'm Coming Out," Meco actually played the trombone solo in that song. Seeing the Star Wars movie for the first time, though Meco thought the movie was nothing short of a religious experience. Originally, he wanted to do Star Wars music as a b-side on a Gloria Gaynor album, but expanded the idea into an entire album.
Tumblr media
In Meco’s own words:
"When I think about what I did, nobody came to me, nobody said 'Meco, why don't you do this.' Nobody says 'Here's some money go make a record of this movie.' It was just my own... It was magical, it was just out of this world when all that happened."
Not only did this album hit platinum, not only did it actually outsell the Star Wars soundtrack, his remix of the Star Wars theme also went to #1 in the charts. It’s actually the best selling instrumental single of all time. A record, that, incidentally, it holds to this day.
Dick Clark, host of American Bandstand, had this to say about Meco:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"In 1977, Meco Monardo accomplished something no one else has ever done to the best of my knowledge. He was the first one in history to out-sell the soundtrack of a motion picture with his own distinctive version of a film's music. The music was totally danceable, and broke new ground. It's no wonder the STAR WARS THEME went to # 1. I loved his treatment of music from THE WIZARD OF OZ. Again, Meco created something innovative. The fun and the excitement gave a whole new feel to that totally familiar and well-loved music."
Like a lot of studio producers, Meco had an insane work ethic and hit when the iron was hot: he did an album about Close Encounters that exact same year, but also did a Star Wars Christmas Album, one of the strangest pieces of Star Wars kitsch around.
youtube
One of the most interesting things about the Star Wars Christmas album is that one of the songs, “R2D2’s Wish You a Merry Christmas” is the first professional vocals by John Bon Jovi, who was Meco’s friend Tony Bongiovi’s seventeen year old younger cousin (he was initially known as John Bongiovi). It's incredible to hear a squeaky voiced teen Bon Jovi on a kitsch album about a robot Christmas.
1978-1979 was really his best year. Meco made an Italo-Disco remix album entirely devoted to Superman, and at this point, Meco had the pull to get access to John Williams's sheet music for the score before the music even came out. In my personal opinion it's the best of them because he has to recreate it entirely with his own instruments, leading to a very unique sound.
He also did an album based on the Wizard of Oz:
And a combination album of Star Trek/Black Hole. It's probably the earliest remixing date of Goldsmith pieces of music: the Motion Picture Theme (which is now associated with the Next Generation - hearing it done in Italodisco is uncanny) and the Klingon Theme:
Incidentally, I think the design here of the Meco Enterprise, which had to be modified for legal reasons, would make a wonderful canon starship if anyone wants to be inspired by it. It reminds me of the same concept that would be used in the very next film for the Reliant-class of ships.
Tumblr media
Meco eventually retired from music in 1985, but unfortunately he is no longer with us, as he passed into the next dimension in 2023. I think he showed us that creativity is often about transformation, and was inspired to make his art by a legitimate awe of space, the cosmos, and human imagination that the scifi movies of the 1970s and 80s provoke.

With the first quarter of the 21st century coming to an end, Billboard has been looking back on the 25 Greatest Pop Stars of the Past 25 Years. Below, we take a deeper look into the solo career of Louis Tomlinson — one of the members of our No. 22 pop stars, One Direction — and how his songwriting, originally honed in 1D, has helped him develop into one of the group’s strongest breakout artists.
When One Direction officially went on hiatus in 2015, Zayn Malik dropped Mind of Mine in 2016, Harry Styles’ eponymous LP dropped in 2017, Niall Horan followed with Flicker later that year and Liam Payne’s First Time EP arrived in 2018. Louis Tomlinson, however, took his time with releasing a full project – and entered an era of healing and self-discovery that saw him realizing his potential as one of 1D’s most self-actualized artists, even if not necessarily the starriest.
Even before going solo, Tomlinson showed he was meant for breakthrough success while in One Direction. Longtime Directioners know that Tomlinson wrote more songs in One Direction than any other member, penning long standing hits including “Perfect,” “History” and “Fool’s Gold” and proving his fortitude as a songwriter who understands lyrical cleverness and crafting the indescribably catchy refrains necessary to produce arena-ready hits. Beyond his musical abilities, Tomlinson’s sense of humor and friendship with fellow 1D members also ensured fans had a soft spot for him.
However, when he did go solo, the road was slippery at first. He teamed up with Steve Aoki for his first solo release “Just Hold On” in December 2016, and just three days before its release, Tomlinson’s mother died of leukemia. He still took the stage to perform the song on The X Factor, the first public testament to the star’s strength and dedication to his musical craft.
Tomlinson’s resilience amid adversity continued as he navigated the music industry. The star signed with Epic Records in 2017 and released a few singles – including “Miss You” and the Bebe Rexha and Digital Farm Animals-assisted “Back to You.” While the infectious hooks to both tracks could have easily solidified Tomlinson as a pop mainstay, the two singles didn’t perform as well as expected on the charts: “Just Hold On” peaked at No. 52 on the Billboard Hot 100 and “Back to You” hit No. 40, while “Miss You” missed the chart altogether. Ultimately, a full-length album never materialized with Epic Records.
youtube
Tomlinson shortly got back on his feet, as he always does, and signed with Arista Records in 2019 – where he honed his talent as a songwriter, this time feeling comfortable enough to tackle more vulnerable topics in his music. His first release under the label was “Two of Us,” a heart-wrenching tribute to his late mother. “I know you’ll be looking down/ Swear I’m gonna make you proud/ I’ll be living one life for the two of us,” he sings in the chorus, giving a glimpse into what would soon become a musical career full of honesty and vulnerability.
Unfortunately, shortly after its release, another hardship struck Tomlinson’s life when his 18-year-old sister Fizzy died of an accidental overdose. Both the release of “Two of Us” and the tragedy that followed showed just how close Tomlinson’s community of fans is, as they showered him with online love and support in the months that followed.
After taking some much-deserved time to heal, he announced in August of that year that his debut solo album was on its way – and shortly after, he released a follow-up single, the rock-leaning, drumline-driven “Kill My Mind.” Tomlinson admitted that he finally found his stride. “I’m actually really proud and relieved to finally find my place, find my lane musically,” he told Hits Radio Breakfast at the time, indicating a moment of relief amid his turbulent few years.
youtube
Tomlinson’s debut solo album, Walls, arrived in January 2020 and while it hit the Billboard 200‘s top 10, it was met with mixed reviews from critics, who suggested that the heart he wanted to portray wasn’t quite there. His growth outside of commercial success proved otherwise, as he had been spending the past few years building a solid identity not only as an artist, but also as a person. While some of the other One Direction alums are still finding their footing with their solo sounds to this day, Tomlinson grew strongly into an instrumentation-focused pop-rock artist whose lyrics go beyond the cookie cutter sentiments you might expect from a former boy band member.
And soon, all the hard work – both personally and musically – finally paid off. Faith in the Future, his 2022 sophomore solo album, debuted at No. 1 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart. In the United States, Faith In The Future debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart, and at No. 5 on the all-genre Billboard 200, his highest-charting set yet on both tallies. The album’s success, as well his sold-out live shows on its accompanying tour, not only showed the still-standing Directioner devotion to Tomlinson, but also made it clear that he picked up a slew of new fans along the way.
Tomlinson’s self-awareness was evident on the album’s lead single, “Bigger Than Me.” “When somebody told me I would change/ I was afraid, I don’t know why/ ‘Cause so does the world outside, I’ve realized/ It’s bigger than me,” he sings – indicating that the key for solo success all along was being himself, and letting go of the pressure that fame brings.
While Tomlinson has still yet to score the major chart hits stateside that his 1D bandmates essentially achieved right away – and has been more focused on his 28 clothing line the past couple years – he’s proven that he doesn’t need traditional pop crossover success to have a bright future ahead of him. With another couple albums and tours that continue to establish his identity and expand his artistry, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him making the jump to arenas in the not-distant future. Louis’ solo career may not have gotten off to the perfect start, but it just might end up being perfect for him in the long-term anyway.

I Never Lived For The Applause | Daryl Dixon x Former!Celebrity!Fem!Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: Before the world quite literally ended, you were a famously known singer. However, your celebrity status didn't do you much good in the apocalypse, despite most people in your group giving you privileges that you didn't want. Thankfully, a certain redneck archer treated you like a normal person, unwillingly becoming the guy who caught your attention.
Genre: Angst, fluff.
Era: The quarry; the farm; the prison.
Warnings: Swearing, usual TWD warnings, suggestive themes.
Word count: 3.9k.
A/n: Okay but the former!celebrity!reader x Daryl was such a unique idea that an anon requested! I never would've thought about that on my own. I thought that this idea would be great combined with a few other requests, and this was born. There's a few time jumps and this is honestly not the best. I scrapped over 1500 words and this is all over the place, and it was supposed to be smut, and I don't really like this, but I hope you like it nonetheless.
➳༻❀✿❀༺➳
Before the apocalypse came to be, you were a famous singer and songwriter. You had multiple hit singles that made the charts and your concerts always sold out. It seemed like wherever you would turn, there would be someone there who would want an autograph or a picture. It seemed like you could never escape the spotlight.
Not even now, when the dead started rising and the world came to an end.
“Amy, I told you, I'm fine. I don't want your food. You need it more than I do.”
Amy shook her head defiantly, practically shoving the paper plate into your hands. “I insist. You're my idol, and I'll be damned if I let my idol go hungry when I have food I can give her.”
You sighed and reluctantly accepted the plate. “This is unnecessary. I already had my share, sweetheart. You don't have to give me yours when you also have to eat.”
“I'm fine. Rather me than you.”
Before you could protest, Andrea called Amy's name. Amy gave you an apologetic smile and bid you farewell, walking over to her sister and leaving you alone with your thoughts. You sighed and turned around, heading over to the tent you shared with your daughter. You opened the flap and stepped inside, seeing your twelve year old daughter, Nicolette, busy sketching in her sketchbook.
She looked up when she heard you step inside, sending you a smile. “Hi, Mom.”
“Hey, Nic,” you greeted her, sitting down on your cot opposite hers. “Why aren't you outside with the other kids?”
Nicolette shook her head, closing her sketchbook and sitting up in her cot. “Most of them treat me funny. They keep asking me if I can sing or if I can write songs, and if I got free stuff because you were famous. Only Carl and Sophia treat me like I'm a normal kid, but they're with their mom's right now.”
You sighed, guilt gnawing at you from the inside. Never once did you regret having your daughter, but sometimes you regretted having to raise her while you were in the spotlight. The paparazzi were relentless, and your daughter more often than not had to pay the price for that. It was unfair, and you wished that you could've just faded from the spotlight to raise your daughter in peace.
“I'm sorry, baby. If I knew back then what my fame could do to you, I never would have signed on with that record label. I wish I could take it back.”
Nicolette shook her head. She got up from her cot and sat down next to you, leaning her head on your shoulder. You wrapped your arms around her, placing a tender kiss on her head.
“It's not your fault, Mom. I don't blame you. You shouldn't, either.”
You shook your head. “That's easier said than done,” you replied, before adopting a more lighthearted tone. “But let's not talk about that. I've got some more food for you if you're hungry.”
Nicolette smiled at you and nodded eagerly. “I'm starving. Thanks, Mom.”
You smiled at her. However, before you could respond, a ruckus could be heard outside your tent. Both yours and your daughter's heads snapped in the direction of the two voices, instantly going quiet to hear what was happening.
“M'tellin ya, man. S'a fuckin' waste of time. We should jus' cut our losses here and scram. Take a few guns and food fer the road.”
“Merle, fer the last fuckin' time, we can't leave righ' now. It's too dangerous. We should wait 'til the heat dies down 'fore we go.”
“Wha' m'hearin' s'tha' yer a pussy. Wha's the matter, Darylina? Scared the geeks will get ya? 'Cause yer too incompetent to handle 'em?”
“Fuck off, Merle! It ain't like tha'. I jus' dun' wanna risk our lives if we dun' need to.”
“Whatever, man. M'goin' back to the tent.”
The man who's name you had learnt to be Merle left, his retreating footsteps growing fainter until you couldn't hear them anymore. However, you could clearly see the silhouette of the other man still outside your tent. You could hear him quietly muttering to himself.
Turning to Nicolette, you gently placed the plate with the food—cooked squirrel with some beans—onto her lap and stood up. You turned to her and leaned down to place a sweet kiss to her forehead.
“Eat up and get ready for bed. I'll be right back and then we'll continue reading that book.”
Nicolette nodded, and with that, you exited your tent. The man stood with his back to you, but a simple slight twitch of his head in your direction showed that he had heard you. His body stiffened visibly, and you frowned at that.
“Hey. You're Daryl, right?” you asked him, prompting the man to turn around.
However, he didn't meet your gaze, finding great interest in the ground below. He simply grunted his acknowledgement, a slight upwards nudge of his nose confirming your question.
“I'm Y/n. It's nice to officially meet you,” you introduced yourself, extending your hand to his for a handshake. Daryl made no move to shake it, however, making you awkwardly retract your hand. “I, uh, just wanted to say that you were right.”
“Wha'?” Daryl asked in confusion, his eyebrows furrowing. He hadn't meant for the question to slip from his lips, trying to just remain quiet until you got the message that he was in no mood to socialise, but he failed.
“That argument you had with your brother. You were right. It's way too dangerous to wander off on your own right now. Personally I feel like you shouldn't be wanting to go at all because it's safer with a group, but that's not my call to make. Just thought I'd let you know that your instincts are right. Don't listen to your brother.”
Daryl was confused by your niceness. He was even more confused by the fact that you agreed with him. He was so used to women taking Merle's side instead of his all the time, so this was something entirely new for him.
“Oh, uh, thanks,” he replied awkwardly, nervously chewing on his lower lip.
You smiled at him before nodding. “Okay, well, just wanted to tell you that. Oh, and to ask you not to argue in front of my tent again. I have a twelve year old in there who doesn't need to hear all of that.”
Daryl ducked his head, an embarrassed blush flushing over his face. “Sorry.”
“I guess I can let it slide this time,” you said with a smile. “And thanks for the squirrel. Thanks to you, my daughter doesn't have to go to bed hungry tonight. Never thought we'd have to resort to eating squirrel, but it's not that bad. It's actually kinda delicious. It's way better than—” Realising that you were busy rambling, you shook your head and gave him an apologetic smile. “Sorry. Just, thank you.”
Daryl didn't know why, but he felt an unexplainable pull to you. Maybe it was the way you showed him kindness without even knowing him, or maybe it was the fact that you were the only one who seemed to actually appreciate the food he brought back from his hunts, even if it was squirrels. Despite their hunger, everyone else mostly refused to eat anything he brought back if it wasn't deer. Yet there you were, thanking him for bringing back something as mediocre as squirrel.
And it certainly didn't help that he found you absolutely radiant.
“S'nothin',” he finally responded. “M'jus' glad yer lil' girl can eat tonigh'.”
“You're the one who brought back the squirrels?”
At the sound of a small voice, both you and Daryl turned around to face your daughter. Nicolette walked up to your side and beamed brightly up at Daryl, catching him off guard. The other kids in the camp were terrified of him and wouldn't even glance in his direction, yet this kid was not only looking at him, but willingly talking to him.
“Yes, he is,” you confirmed, smiling fondly down at your daughter.
Nicolette looked up at Daryl, realisation dawning on her. “You're the man with the crossbow! And the vest with the angel wings! You're so cool, sir. Do you think I could maybe shoot your crossbow one time? It's okay if you say no, but can I maybe see how you shoot it so that when I get my own crossbow one day, I know how to use it? Or—”
Daryl's lips subconsciously twitched up into a smile. Her rambling was so similar to yours. Like mother, like daughter, he thought to himself as he looked between the two of you. There were over a dozen similarities between you and Nicolette. She looked just like you.
You placed a hand on Nicolette's shoulder, halting her rambling. You turned to Daryl, giving him a smile. “We should probably get ready for bed. Goodnight, Daryl.”
“Night, Daryl!” Nicolette greeted him enthusiastically, following you into the tent.
“Night,” he whispered.
“Oh, and by the way, don't be a stranger. I'd love to see more of you.”
Daryl blushed and ducked his head. He hummed, not trusting his voice at that moment in time.
You smiled and finally entered the tent, zipping the tent closed behind you. He stood there for a couple of moments before turning and walking back to his own shared tent with Merle.
Daryl couldn't explain it, but for some reason, in that short conversation, he felt drawn to you. It was unnerving, but felt nice at the same time. And your daughter was downright an angel, your exact copy.
“Wha' were ya doin', sniffin' 'round tha' popstar?” Merle asked when Daryl entered the tent, catching him off guard. Daryl had assumed that Merle would've been passed out by now, high off of whatever drug he was using that night.
“Popstar? Wha' the hell are ya talkin' 'bout?” Daryl questioned, plopping himself down on his cot.
“Tha' woman ya were talkin' to, she was a singer 'fore all this. Real famous, too. Used to see her on TV and in magazine's all the time.”
Daryl's mind swarmed with questions. You were a famous singer? How the hell did you end up there, with a bunch of nobodies? And why had you thanked him for bringing back something as simple as a squirrel? If you were famous, you had probably eaten banquets of the richest, most delicious food out there, yet you enjoyed squirrel? And to top it off, why would you willingly want to hang out with him of all people?
➳༻❀✿❀༺➳
“Daryl, oh my god.”
At the sound of your panicked voice, Daryl slowly sat upright in the bed in the guest bedroom. He looked up and locked eyes with you, seeing the worry written all over your face. You hurriedly sat down on the edge of the bed next to him and gingerly reached out to touch the bandage around his side, careful not to add too much pressure and hurt him.
“M'fine, sunshine. Dun' have to worry 'bout me,” he replied, waving off your concern and gently grabbing your hand to push it away from the bandage.
You scoffed in disbelief and shook your head. “You're my friend, Daryl. Of course I'm going to worry about you. I care about you, and you expect me to not worry?” you asked, bringing your hand up to gently caress his cheek.
Friend. That word reminded Daryl of how you viewed him. It had been two months since your first interaction at the quarry and his affection and attraction to you had only grown stronger. However, it seemed to him like his feelings weren't reciprocated, so he settled on being your friend.
Little did he know that you felt the exact same way. You just didn't know it yet.
“Heard ya punched Andrea fer shootin' me. Any truth to those rumours?” Daryl asked, diverting the attention away from his now pounding heart as your fingers gently pushed his hair back.
You smiled sheepishly. “My hand slipped?” you tried, shrugging your shoulders.
Daryl smirked slightly and shook his head. “Sure. Whatever ya say, sunshine.”
You let out a sigh, reluctantly drawing your hand back from his hair. “She had it coming. We told her not to shoot and she didn't listen, trying to boost her own ego instead. She almost killed you, Daryl. That's not something she should be allowed to get away with, but Rick and Shane aren't gonna do anything, so I took matters into my own hands.”
Daryl smiled softly. “Not bad fer a popstar.”
You giggled. “Hey, I got into a couple of fights before my career took off. I know my stuff. I know how to shoot a gun, too, but that's a discussion for another day.”
Daryl chuckled and nodded. He shifted back against the headboard and gazed at you, simply admiring your beauty for a moment. It amazed him that a beautiful, kind, caring, smart woman like you would ever wanna be associated with the likes of him. You were perfect and he was, well, him. It didn't make sense, but he dared not to question it.
“Can I ask ya somethin' personal?” he blurted out before he could think about it.
You nodded at him. “Sure.”
“When ya talk 'bout yer career, it sounds like ya hated it. Why'd ya become a singer if ya hated it so much?”
You remained silent for a minute. Daryl feared that he had asked the wrong thing and was about to apologise, but you spoke up.
“I was nineteen when I signed with my first record label. I didn't want to be in the spotlight because singing was more of a hobby to me, but my parents forced me to. Growing up, there wasn't ever really any money around and my parents made it out like it was my fault. They made me feel like I owed them for everything they did for me, and they forced me to sign with that record label. My parents were my managers and all the money I earned for the songs I wrote and sang basically went to them. That went on for a couple of years until I met Nic's father. He was a bass player in a band I was collaborating with. I fell in love way too quickly, jumped into bed with him when he made an advancement and ended up pregnant. The guy didn't want kids and bolted, leaving me a single mom. My parents hated that and basically disowned me.”
“M'sorry to hear tha',” Daryl replied sympathetically. He didn't really know how to respond; he never knew that about you. You chose to keep your life before you had Nicolette private, and he respected that. He had his own demons he preferred to keep quiet.
“It's okay,” you reassured him, shaking your head. “He was an asshole. And I was better off without my parents. I managed to sign with a decent enough record label and the rest was history. I got a ton of backlash from haters for being a single mom. There were even rumours that I had cheated and that's why the guy left me, but that wasn't true. But none of that matters anymore. My reputation doesn't matter anymore. All that matters now is keeping my daughter safe and keeping the people I care about alive. People like you.”
“Ya shouldn't care 'bout me. S'a bad idea.”
“Well, bad idea or not, I care about you. And so does Nic.”
As if being summoned, Nicolette knocked on the door and hesitantly stepped inside. Daryl adjusted the covers over his body and sent her a tight-lipped smile. Nicolette gave him a small smile back but he could clearly tell it was strained. Her eyes were bloodshot from crying.
“Are you okay?” Nicolette asked, crossing her arms over her chest as if to make herself appear smaller.
“M'fine, kiddo. Dun' worry 'bout me,” he reassured her. “Hershel fixed me righ' up. I'll be outta here in no time.”
Nicolette looked to you for confirmation, and you nodded. “He's right. He'll be fine. Some antibiotics and he'll be up and at it in three days. You'll see.”
“Okay,” she nodded, her eyes flickering between you and Daryl. “I'm glad you're not dead, Daryl.”
Daryl chuckled at the girls forwardness. “M'glad m'not dead, too.”
You smiled at the small interaction between Daryl and Nicolette, your heart swelling with fondness. You stood up from the bed and motioned for Nicolette to follow you.
“C'mon, baby. Let's leave Daryl to get some rest, okay?”
“Actually, I was wondering if I could maybe stay?” she asked timidly, nervously fiddling with her hands. “It's just... I wanna stay.”
You looked at Daryl, and he shrugged nonchalantly. Despite his nonchalance, Daryl's heart swelled with fondness. This little girl, who owed him nothing, wanted to stay with him. He couldn't believe it.
“Okay, you can stay for a while. I'll be back later, okay?” you relented.
She nodded and sat down on the chair. You gave Daryl's hand one last squeeze before heading out, sparing one last look at the two. Nicolette was starting to retell some of the events of what her and Carl had gotten up to that day, and Daryl hummed in acknowledgement before looking up and locking eyes with you.
With one last parting smile, you headed out and made your way back to the tents. On your way there, a startling realisation hit you like a ton of bricks, one that would change the way you saw Daryl forever. Despite the fact that he could be snappy at times, and that he was known for being grumpy, he treated you with respect. He didn't care about who you were before the end of the world. He didn't care about your mistakes, about if you were famous or not. That didn't matter to him. He only saw you, the person behind the old tabloids, and he had become close with your daughter. He even took the time out of his day to teach her how to use his crossbow, even if she was a slow learner. And in that moment, you realised something:
You had feelings for him.
➳༻❀✿❀༺➳
“Y'know, m'glad Nic didn't have to meet her father. She's better off.”
You turned your head to Daryl, a look of confusion spreading across your features. “I agree with you, but why do you say that? You didn't know the man.”
Daryl shrugged, taking a drag from his cigarette and blowing the smoke away from you. “Ya said back at Hershel's tha' he never wanted kids. If he had stuck 'round, god knows wha' he would've done to her.”
“Yeah,” you agreed, turning your attention back to the darkness ahead of you. “She is better off.”
The night was relatively quiet, save for the distant sound of walkers groaning outside the prison's fences.  Daryl was on watch that night in the guard tower, and you had taken the initiative to join the archer that night. Everyone else had retreated into the prison for the night, leaving only you and Daryl awake.
“So are we gon' tell Nic 'bout us or not?” Daryl broke the silence, taking the last drag from his cigarette before putting it out next to him. “S'been over a month now. She deserves to know.”
Unbidden, flashes of that night a month ago arose in your mind. The feeling of his lips on yours, his hands exploring your body and the way he felt pressed against you. The feeling of your bodies becoming one was one that you wouldn't forget anytime soon, but the one memory you'd hold with you forever was the confession from the man next to you. After the heated, pleasurable moment you'd spent together, feelings were revealed, and you and the archer had unofficially started your relationship. You had both agreed to keep it a secret, but Nicolette was starting to get suspicious about the two of you.
“I'm okay with telling her tomorrow. She deserves to finally have confirmation on her suspicions,” you told him, leaning your head against his shoulder. “She already sees you as her dad, anyways.”
Daryl couldn't argue with that. Flashes of his own arose in his mind. A couple of days ago, he had returned from a run, battered and bruised. He could barely walk and both you and Nicolette were distraught. However, after he was patched up and resting in his cell and you were up in the guard tower for your shift, Nicolette had come to him in tears. He had hugged her tightly to his chest, acutely aware that she was transported back to that day on the farm when he had been shot. That night was the night Nicolette had confirmed that she saw Daryl as a father figure.
“Please don't leave. My mom needs you. I need you. We both need you in our lives. Please, Daryl.”
In that moment, even though she didn't know yet that you and Daryl were together, he knew that he wouldn't be able to live without either of you. You both were his entire world. Nicolette was his little girl. You were his partner, and there was no way he was letting either of you go.
“Dun' worry, Nic. I ain't goin' nowhere. I promise ya tha'.”
Shaken from his thoughts by your lips on his exposed shoulder, he turned his head to you, coming face to face with a mischievous smirk. He instantly knew what that smirk meant, and he helped you climb onto his lap.
“But,” you began, pulling his attention back to your previous discussion. “Let's worry about that tomorrow. Tonight, it's just me and you.”
Daryl smirked and attached his lips to yours. You may have been a popstar before the apocalypse, a celebrity living in a mansion, but in that moment, you were simply you. The woman Daryl cared for deeply, the woman Daryl was never gonna let go of.
Because in that moment, you were nothing but his.

"The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" is a 1976 song written, composed and performed by Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot to memorialize the sinking of the bulk carrier SS Edmund Fitzgerald in Lake Superior on November 10, 1975. Lightfoot considered this song to be his finest work.
The ballad chronicles the final voyage of the Edmund Fitzgerald as it succumbed to a massive late-season storm and sank in Lake Superior with the loss of all 29 crewmen. Lightfoot drew inspiration from news reports he gathered in the immediate aftermath, particularly "The Cruelest Month", published in Newsweek magazine's November 24, 1975, issue. Lightfoot's passion for sailing on the Great Lakes informs his verses throughout.
The single hit number 1 in his native Canada on November 20, 1976, barely a year after the disaster. In the United States, it reached number 1 on Cashbox 's ranking and number 2 for two weeks in the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The emotional fallout from the incident leaves their relationship hanging in the balance, with Keyshia questioning if they could ever recover from the betrayal.
Keyshia Anoa’i Tearfully Reveals Upcoming Tenth Studio Album: "Album Ten Right Now On The Way"
In a heartfelt moment during her performance at Tampa's Amalie Arena, Keyshia Anoa’i made an emotional announcement that had fans on their feet: her tenth studio album is officially on the way.
The Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and businesswoman became visibly emotional as she choked back tears, taking a moment to express her deep gratitude to her fans. With her trademark raw honesty, she addressed the crowd: "I wanna say I appreciate you. If you ever bought an album…" The arena, filled with fans who had been following her journey for years, erupted in applause. The atmosphere was charged with emotion as Keyshia continued, her voice thick with emotion, “Album ten right now on the way.”
As Keyshia’s dancers took the stage wearing jackets emblazoned with the album title, the magnitude of the moment set in. This announcement, marking a major milestone in her career, comes after decades of chart-topping hits, sold-out shows, and the kind of influence in the music industry that few can rival.
With a career spanning nearly two decades, Keyshia Anoa’i has solidified her place as one of the world’s best-selling music artists, having sold an impressive 190 million records worldwide. Her legacy includes 14 Grammy Awards, several consecutive number-one debuts on the Billboard 200, and countless hits that have become anthems for her loyal fanbase.
Still, this upcoming album feels especially personal. "Album ten is about growth, reflection, and all the things that make us who we are," Keyshia explained to the crowd, her voice full of passion. "It’s for the people who’ve been there from the beginning and the ones who’ve just joined us on this journey. It’s a celebration of everything we’ve gone through together."
Over the years, Keyshia’s music has captured the complexities of love, heartbreak, and resilience—topics that resonate deeply with her fans. From the raw emotions of her breakout album The Way It Is to the more recent Point of No Return, each record has marked a different chapter in her personal and artistic evolution. Album ten promises to build on this legacy while offering something new.
Fans can expect to hear a more mature sound that reflects the lessons Keyshia has learned over the years, as well as the personal and professional challenges she has faced. "I’m in a different space now," she confessed backstage after the performance. "I’ve lived, I’ve loved, and I’ve learned. This album reflects all of that."
As she prepares to release her tenth album, Keyshia’s gratitude for her fans is evident. Through the years, they’ve supported her through the highs and lows—whether through the release of chart-topping singles, her personal life making headlines, or her triumphs in music and business. "None of this would be possible without you. You’re the reason I keep doing this," Keyshia said, wiping away a tear as the audience cheered her on.
The anticipation for this new chapter in Keyshia’s career is already reaching a fever pitch. While details about the album’s tracklist and collaborators remain under wraps, fans are eager for the chance to hear what Keyshia has poured her heart into. Given her track record, it's safe to say Album Ten will be one for the books.
For Keyshia Anoa’i, this is not just another album release—it’s a testament to a career that has defied expectations and changed the landscape of modern music. And as she shared with the crowd at Amalie Arena, this is just the beginning of what promises to be another iconic chapter.
As fans await the arrival of her tenth studio album, one thing is certain: Keyshia Anoa’i’s legacy is far from over.

The evening of the Apple Music Live Session was meant to be a celebration. It was a moment that Keyshia and her older sister, LaKenya, had worked toward for months as two powerful women in the music industry, shining on one of the biggest platforms available. The stage was set, the lights were blinding, and the audience online was ready to witness something extraordinary. And they did—just not in the way anyone had expected.
Keyshia was glowing, her voice as smooth and velvety as it had always been. She moved with the grace of a seasoned performer, her every note pulling the audience into her world. LaKenya, older but no less powerful in her presence, stood beside her, matching her energy with a quiet confidence that only time could cultivate. Together, they were an unstoppable force, a family united by blood and by music.
But there was something different about Keyshia tonight—something subtle but noticeable. She laughed too loudly between songs, her movements a little too uncoordinated. When she sang, she lost her footing in the music, slurring her words ever so slightly, as though the melody was slipping away from her grip.
LaKenya, ever the professional, smiled and played along, though her gaze occasionally flickered with concern. She tried to keep things light, to make sure the energy remained high for the audience, but it was clear to anyone watching that something was off.
And then there were the comments rapidly flooding in from viewers who were watching the performance live. People were starting to notice Keyshia's behavior.
"Is Keyshia okay?" one comment read. "She seems... out of it," another said, followed by a string of others. Some were concerned, others were mocking her, and a few just couldn’t look away, mesmerized by what they were seeing.
Joe, sitting back in his chair at home, his thumb still on the phone screen, felt a pit form in his stomach. He watched the stream, his eyes narrowing as he saw his wife sway unsteadily on stage, giggling too loud, her face flushed with a kind of vulnerability that was rare for her. She wasn’t acting like herself. And everyone could see it.
"Uhh, is she really drunk right now, uce?" Jon asked, his voice low, catching Joe’s attention as he sat next to him.
Joe rubbed his face, staring at the screen. His mind raced with a thousand thoughts, but he couldn’t shake the overwhelming feeling of guilt. "Yeah, she’s drunk," he answered, his tone quiet, but tinged with frustration.
It wasn’t just that Keyshia was drunk—it was that she was drunk publicly, on one of the largest live-streamed events in the world, with over nine million viewers. The idea that the world would be watching her in this state hit Joe hard, each comment, each judgment from strangers stinging like salt on a wound.
Keyshia, still on screen, stood up suddenly, her body moving in ways that lacked the usual grace and rhythm. She swayed like a pendulum caught between music and chaos, trying to dance but losing her balance every few steps. Her laughter rang out, loud and unfiltered, echoing through the microphones.
Jon winced. "She’s struggling," he muttered under his breath, not wanting to make the situation worse but knowing the truth of it.
Joe didn’t respond. He knew it was true. His heart clenched as he watched her move off-screen, disappearing for a few moments before reappearing in the frame, looking dazed. She sat down again, her eyes unfocused, her smile too wide for the moment.
“Damn it,” Joe muttered, running a hand through his hair. His chest felt tight, heavy with the weight of everything that had led them to this moment.
Jon glanced over at him. “You know everyone in the family is gonna be talking about this,” he said, trying to offer a bit of reality in the middle of Joe’s panic. “It’s already all over the internet.”
Joe didn’t need Jon to tell him that. He could feel the storm building, the hum of social media backlash already spreading. The weight of everything—the arguments, the lies, the betrayal—was crashing down on him. He had destroyed her, broken something deep inside her, and now this was the fallout.
He stood up, his decision made. “I need to help her,” he said, grabbing his keys from the counter.
Jon followed him out of the house, clearly unsure of what Joe thought he could do amid a disaster, but he didn’t argue. They got into the car, the hum of the engine filling the quiet space between them.
It took twenty minutes to drive to the venue, but the distance didn’t help Joe’s racing mind. He gripped the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles turned white. Jon checked his phone in silence, scrolling through the endless flood of comments about Keyshia’s performance. “She’s getting roasted, Joe,” Jon said, his voice full of disbelief. “There are memes of you in the mix too—people can’t get enough.”
Joe barely registered the words. His focus was entirely on Keyshia. On the woman, he had once promised to love and protect. He had failed her.
When they arrived at the venue, Joe didn’t waste any time. He grabbed a water bottle from the car and quickly poured it into a mug, hoping it would help sober her up. The scene inside the venue was a chaotic mix of the crew and people lingering around, but Joe’s eyes were on one thing—Keyshia.
She was still singing, her voice slurred but somehow still beautiful, her body shifting between sitting and standing with little coordination. LaKenya was by her side, trying her best to maintain the flow of the show, but it was clear she was no longer in control.
Joe approached the stage, his presence immediately noticeable. The audience watching the live stream could see him, and for a split second, it felt like the whole performance shifted. Keyshia’s eyes lit up as she saw him, her face flushed with the drunken excitement that came from seeing someone she loved.
“What are you doing here, babe?” she asked, her voice playful, though her balance was clearly wavering.
Joe smiled softly, despite the storm brewing inside him. He didn’t have time for soft smiles, but he couldn’t help himself. He handed her the mug of water, his eyes fixed on her with a mix of worry and affection.
“Drink this,” he said, his voice low but firm. “You need to sober up.”
Keyshia took the mug, giggling as she did. “You’re trying to sing too, huh?” she teased, her words slurring as she took a long sip.
Joe, feeling both amused and incredibly uncomfortable, joined in half-heartedly, singing along in an exaggerated attempt to match her pitch. His voice was off-key, not that it mattered, as Keyshia laughed even harder at the sight of him trying. Jon, ever the instigator, joined in, encouraging Joe to harmonize with him. The four of them were suddenly caught in a moment of ridiculousness that felt almost too out of place in the midst of the chaos.
The viewers watching the live stream ate it up. Clips of Joe trying to sing and harmonize with Keyshia flooded social media, turning the moment into something entirely different. Memes exploded, some poking fun at the situation, others celebrating the unfiltered nature of it all. People couldn’t stop talking about it—Joe’s unexpected appearance, the awkward yet endearing moment of them singing together. It was no longer just a moment of crisis; it was a spectacle.
LaKenya laughed along with them, her anxiety briefly put on hold as the tension in the room shifted. She was grateful for the distraction, but she knew this couldn’t last. The performance was over, and Apple Music ended the stream shortly after, leaving the family to deal with the aftermath in private.
Once the cameras stopped rolling, Joe pulled Keyshia to the side, his hand gently but firmly guiding her away from the stage. The adrenaline that had fueled her through the performance was now starting to wear off, and the weight of the night settled heavily on her shoulders.
“What the hell was that?” Joe asked quietly, his voice raw with frustration. He wasn’t angry, not really. It was something deeper, more complicated. “You were beyond drunk, Keyshia. That wasn’t you.”
Keyshia rolled her eyes, brushing him off with an air of nonchalance. “I’m fine, Joe. It’s not that big of a deal,” she muttered, clearly not in the right state of mind to understand the gravity of the situation.
But Joe wasn’t about to let it slide. Not this time. He took a step closer to her, his voice quieter now, but filled with urgency. “You’re not fine, Keyshia. You haven’t been fine for a long time.”
She met his eyes, her expression shifting for a moment, but the alcohol still clouded her judgment. She didn’t respond immediately, but the weight of his words lingered in the air between them. The night had broken something between them, something neither of them was sure they could fix.
But Joe knew one thing for sure: he couldn’t let her destroy herself for his mistake anymore.
Tumblr media
The day after the Apple Music Live Session hung heavy in the air, a quiet tension settled between Keyshia and Joe. The usual noise of their bustling household was absent, the sound of children’s laughter replaced by the distant hum of a world moving on without them. Keyshia sat at the kitchen table, her head bent low as she stared at the empty cup of tea in front of her. The ceramic mug felt cold against her fingers, a stark contrast to the warmth she once felt when things were good between them.
She couldn’t avoid it any longer. The events of the previous night had replayed in her mind a hundred times. She had seen the anger, the sadness, the embarrassment, the hurt in her own eyes, but now, a day later, she saw something else—something far more painful. She saw the broken pieces of herself scattered in the aftermath. It wasn’t just about his betrayal anymore. It was about what she had become because of it.
Joe stood in the doorway, leaning against the frame, watching her silently. He wasn’t sure what to say, or how to approach her. He had never been good at expressing the right words at the right time, but he knew he couldn’t stay silent anymore. They had too much at stake to let this drift into nothingness.
"Keyshia…" his voice broke the stillness, low and tentative.
She didn’t look up at first. She didn’t want to, afraid that if she did, she’d crumble right there, right in front of him. Her emotions felt too raw, too exposed. But then, there was something in his tone. A quiet desperation, a plea for understanding that made her finally meet his gaze.
For a moment, they simply stared at each other, the years they had spent together flashing through her mind. She saw their early days—laughter, love, dreams of a future that seemed so close, so reachable. But now, all she saw was a man who had broken her trust most intimately. She didn’t want to feel like this. She didn’t want to be numb, to be torn between the love she once had and the fear of what might come next.
"I’m sorry, Keyshia," Joe said, stepping into the room. His voice was rough, the words thick with regret. "I know I messed up. I know I hurt you in ways I can’t take back, but I’ll do anything to fix this."
Keyshia’s heart ached at the sincerity in his voice. She wanted to believe him. She wanted to say the words that would make everything better. But the truth was, she was terrified. Terrified that this would just be another round of empty promises, another broken vow. The hurt inside her was more than just disappointment. It was a dull, crushing weight that had taken root inside her, and she wasn’t sure if it would ever go away.
"I want to forgive you, Joe," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I’m scared. I’m scared that if I do, you’ll just do it again. And I don’t know if I can handle that. I don’t know if I can survive it."
Her voice cracked as the words spilled out, and with them, the tears she had been holding back for so long began to fall. She wiped them away quickly, not wanting to seem weak, but the floodgates had opened. She couldn’t stop them.
Joe was at her side in an instant, kneeling in front of her, his hand resting gently on hers. He didn’t say anything at first, letting the silence hang between them. He didn’t want to rush her, didn’t want to say the wrong thing. He just needed her to know that he was there, that he was listening, that he cared more than she could imagine.
"I’m so sorry," he repeated softly. "I can’t tell you how much I regret what I did. I know I can’t take back the past, but I want to prove to you that I can be the man you need me to be. I’ll do whatever it takes, Keyshia. I’ll earn your trust again, piece by piece, if that’s what it takes."
Keyshia squeezed her eyes shut, trying to control the emotions threatening to overtake her. "I don’t know who I’m becoming, Joe," she whispered. "I feel like I’m losing myself in all of this. I’ve become someone I don’t even recognize. I’m angry all the time, I’m bitter, I’m…I’m numb. And I hate it. I hate feeling like this."
Her confession hung in the air like a heavy fog. It was the first time she had allowed herself to admit the depth of her pain, and the toll this situation had taken on her mental and emotional well-being. She was no longer the woman she had once been. The trust she had once freely given was now a fragile thing, cracked and frayed. The anger she felt, the resentment, it was consuming her, and she didn’t know how to stop it.
Joe’s heart broke at her words. He had seen the changes in her, and had felt the distance between them grow in the wake of his betrayal. He had watched the woman he loved become someone he didn’t recognize either. He didn’t want to be the cause of her pain. He didn’t want to be the reason for the fear and uncertainty that clouded her every thought.
"Keyshia," he said softly, his voice filled with sincerity, "I never wanted you to feel like this. I never wanted to hurt you. But I know I did. And I know that the only way to fix this is to show you that I can be better. Not just say it, but show it. I’ll spend every day for the rest of my life proving to you that I’m worth your trust again."
Keyshia let out a shaky breath, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. Her heart ached at his words, but the pain was tangled with a glimmer of hope, the faintest possibility that maybe, just maybe, they could find a way through this. But it wasn’t just about him. It was about her, too. She had to figure out how to let go of the bitterness, how to heal from the wounds that had been inflicted on her heart.
"I don’t know how to trust you again, Joe," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don’t know how to stop feeling this way. I don’t know how to let go of the fear."
Joe’s hand gently squeezed hers, a silent promise that he would be there, that he would do the work. "We’ll figure it out together. You don’t have to do it alone. We have seven kids, Keyshia. We have a family that depends on us. We have to figure this out for them. For us."
Her heart ached at the mention of their children. They had built a life together, a family that was their everything. The thought of their children growing up in a house where trust was shattered, where love was broken, was unbearable. They deserved better. She deserved better. And so did Joe.
"Maybe that’s the only thing keeping me together right now," she admitted, her voice tinged with exhaustion. "The kids. I know we can’t just throw everything away. I know we have to try, for them. But I’m so tired, Joe. I’m just so tired."
Joe’s eyes softened with understanding. He had been there, too. He had felt the weight of his mistakes, the strain of living with the consequences. But he was ready to carry that burden if it meant they could find their way back to each other.
"I know, Keyshia," he said quietly. "I know. And I’m willing to do whatever it takes to help you heal. We’ll take it one step at a time. I’m here. And I won’t give up on us."
The room was quiet again, but this time, it was a comfortable silence. There were no easy answers, no quick fixes. They had a long road ahead of them. But for the first time in a long while, Keyshia felt the faintest glimmer of hope. Maybe forgiveness wasn’t an impossible thing. Maybe, with time, they could rebuild the trust that had been broken. Maybe they could find their way back to the love they once had.
And maybe, just maybe, she could learn to forgive not just Joe, but herself as well.

A moving ballad about unspoken feelings, "Liham" captures the pain and longing of words left unsaid in a heartfelt letter. It's themes of love, longing, and vulnerability, highlights SB19's emotional depth.

"Ilaw" (2023)
A more emotional, introspective track, "Ilaw" represents hope and guidance, showcasing SB19’s ability to convey deep feelings through gentle melodies and touching lyrics.

"Moonlight" (2024)
Moonlight has a dreamy, mellow feel, combining smooth melodies with reflective lyrics. It’s particularly appreciated for its atmospheric and soothing vibe.

They have collaborated with Ian Asher and Terry Zhong in "Moonlight." Other collaborations include "Ready" with Apl.de.Ap of Black Eyed Peas and "Kalakal" with Gloc-9, the latter is often dubbed as the fastest rapper in the Philippines.
Other Must Watch Videos
Apart from their official music videos, it's worth watching live performances and one-take recordings such as from The First Take and Wish Bus.
SB19 offers a dynamic and diverse discography, blending pop, ballads, R&B, rock, and hip-hop, making them an exciting force in the PPop industry and beyond.

Members
Pablo (John Paulo Nase)
The group’s leader, main rapper, and lead vocalist, Pablo is also a talented songwriter and producer. He is credited with writing most of SB19's songs.
Josh (Josh Cullen Santos)
Josh serves as the lead rapper and sub-vocalist of the group. He's the eldest member of the group, but true to his name, Cullen, he's like a vampire who doesn't look his age.
While all of them struggled before reaching where they are right now, Josh's life story is probably the most interesting one (IMO). It could have easily landed an episode of biopic (often dramatic but with life lessons to serve) shows like "Magpakailanman" or "Maalala mo Kaya."
Stell (Stellvester Ajero)
Known for his powerful vocals, Stell is SB19's main vocalist. He is also involved in vocal arrangements and harmonies, bringing emotional depth to the group's music.
Ken (Felip Jhon Suson)
As the group's main dancer and sub-vocalist, Ken has a distinct low vocal range that adds texture to their songs.
Justin (Justin de Dios)
The youngest member and sub-vocalist, Justin is also the creative mind behind much of SB19's visual content, contributing to their music video direction and concepts.
Tumblr media
Solo Music
SB19’s members have ventured into solo projects, further showcasing their individual artistry alongside their group success.
Pablo
Pablo's solo single, "La Luna" (2022), is a deep, introspective track that explores themes of inner battles, freedom, and identity, set against a dark, moody backdrop.
He continues to explore deeper themes in his solo work with two recent albums, "Alon" and "Laon" (2024). These albums are a reflection of his growth as a songwriter and producer, tackling topics like personal struggles, introspection, and resilience.
Tumblr media
Laon (long time, old, ancient; you get the point) is more upbeat and often edgy, while Alon (waves, like ocean waves) is inspirational but sometimes heartbreaking.
"Butata" from Laon is easily the top track with it's basketball-themed lyrics referencing the anime Slam Dunk, which was a hit in the Philippines back in the 2000s. "Butata" literally means getting zero points or losing a game. It's a gritty, hard-hitting track that reflects Pablo’s ability to mix emotional vulnerability with strong, impactful lyricism.
I like all the songs in Alon, especially "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" and "Drowning in the Water." The former (TBWCW) is surprisingly not about the boy who cried wolf but about the boy who is also the wolf at the same time, and he's having a dialogue with himself. The latter is a song he wrote about a decade or so ago. Let me add "Wala" as well.
Tumblr media
Josh
In 2023, Josh launched his solo single "Wild Tonight," which blends dark, edgy themes with electronic pop influences.
Josh later released "1999" this year, which reflects his personal memories and nostalgia of growing up in the '90s. The song blends retro vibes with modern electronic beats, celebrating the simplicity and joy of youth.
Tumblr media
Other notable songs from both the first wave of singles and the current ones include Yoko Na featuring Al James, Get Right, No Control, and Sumaya. The entire Lost and Found album (2024) is bop to be honest, but my personal favorites are Silent Cries, See Me, and Honest.
Felip / Ken
Under his solo name "Felip," he has released tracks like "Palayo" and "Bulan," which explore his creative individuality and experiment with contemporary R&B and hip-hop with some traditional elements. Fake Faces easily makes him a "Rocksta." Let me add Kanako too. It's in Bisaya (another language in the Philippines).
Tumblr media
Apart from the singles, he has released the 7 Sins (2024) album. I love the entire album, especially the rage song "envy" and the inspiring "ache." The kids choir at the song's bridge can melt your heart further amid the already heart-melting lyrics. His collaboration with Dutch-Filipino R&B singer Cyra Gwynth "lust" is a must-listen to track as well. The entire album is a must-listen to, actually.
Stell
Stell's songs combine a mix of ballads and pop tracks that allow him to express his personal experiences and artistic growth beyond his work with SB19.
Tumblr media
(GIF is in his The Voice Philippines coach era)
One of the standout songs from Stell’s solo project, "Room" is a heartfelt ballad that focuses on the themes of love, vulnerability, and personal space. Stell’s rich vocals shine, creating an intimate emotional connection with listeners.
Speaking of that GIF, Stell became a coach for the Philippine franchise of The Voice Generations (2023) and The Voice Kids (2024). His rendition of All By Myself with David Foster further proves his vocal strength.
Justin
Justin’s recent solo releases have also gained attention for their unique storytelling and personal touch.
Tumblr media
"Kaibigan" is a touching song about friendship and love (or more like friendzoned). It highlights Justin's lyrical ability to convey warmth and connection, blending gentle melodies with heartfelt lyrics.
"Surreal": This track dives into dreamlike themes of wonder and imagination, offering a smooth, almost ethereal sound that showcases Justin's creativity and softer vocal tones.
These solo efforts from SB19’s members, alongside their group discography, illustrate the depth of their musical abilities and their desire to push boundaries within PPop and beyond.

Things needing immediate attention in MUSE era...
We have GOT to diversify streaming platforms. Last year as a present to myself I went ahead and purchased a premium family bundle (for 6 email accounts each) for YouTube/YT Music, Pandora, and Spotify--plus a premium Apple account hooked up to Stationhead, and I currently have free trials going for Tidal, Qobuz, and Amazon. Premium streams are essential for charts.
Every day I make clicking through playlists on all these platforms as part of my routine: before breakfast, at lunch, and before bed at a minimum.
We also need to be very diligent about voting. Once I sat myself down and took the time to download the apps, set up accounts, and watch a few YouTube tutorials about how to do it, it's actually pretty easy and usually only a once or twice a day sort of thing.
Then there are the polls that have unlimited voting. That is a numbers game, a war of attrition. So while I wait for my lunch to heat up? I vote. Stuck in a waiting room for an appointment? Voting. On the phone with someone who is just gabbing away? Uh huh, mm mhm, but clickity click, I'm voting the whole time. I aim to hit that Vote button about 100 times a day. All told, takes less than 5 minutes.
Also our boy just posted on Insta after 126 days of silence. Please interact with the story and show him the love!
All in all, I think we really need to get into a routine where we fire on all cylinders. Streaming parties, funding parties, outreach & hype parties... We are hyper-focused on Spotify and YouTube videos and that stuff is absolutely important, but it leaves too many gains on the table. Let's use every tool in the box, okay?
Finally, I want to wrap up this post with gratitude:
I know I encourage you guys a lot to push yourselves and work hard, and I don't mean to come off as your taskmaster, but rather as a cheerleader.
We took a mostly Korean song with an insultingly low level of promo, plus no ads, no playlisting, no radio, only one version, with less than a full week to chart, which dropped during a major US holiday -- and it's very likely it will land on the Hot 100. That is...outstanding.
If nothing else, Jimin will see that he's loved and appreciated and we have his back. Whatever the assholes online try to say about vpn and bots and other bullshit, it was your blood, sweat, and tears that gave Jimin his well-deserved seat at an otherwise unwelcoming industry table. I'm so grateful to you and to this community for that.
We all know that Jimin is organic, authentic, and uniquely talented, and therefore isn't even in competition with anyone else. But we can still get him some good wins. What we do for him, we do out of love--not obligation or bragging rights. His music and his artistry are a source of JOY!
Tumblr media
WE ARE OFFICIALLY IN OUR MUSE ERA!
We have two weeks to study up and get premium accounts and gather all our energy to support a whole album. How lucky we are to be so well fed and loved.
FIGHTING!

A deep dive into Louis Tomlinson's career, both solo and in One Direction, and how he's grown into one of pop music's most thoughtful songwriters.

TOKYO BABYLON FST: BOX
what's poppin TyoBabi fandom, I got a present for you
Tumblr media
.zip File Download: DISCS 1 & 2 (109MB)
Tumblr media
This FST is basically an in-depth run down of the collection of songs that were sung/mentioned/in the "VOL. 7/BOX" chapter of Tokyo Babylon 5, with some info about the artists and songs themselves. This, as far as I know, is the most thorough run-through of the music of "BOX" on the English web! I've divided it into two "discs", the first being the songs mentioned themselves, and the second being a few fun related extras. You can check out the second disc over on Radio Free T.Y.O, if you're interested ♥
Ginza no Koi no Monogatari
Tumblr media
銀座の恋の物語 - "Ginza Love Story" 石原裕次郎・牧村旬子 - Ishihara Yuujirou and Makimura Junko mp3 download || youtube
The song that Seishirou and Hokuto are pouring their very souls into to perform in the beginning of the chapter. Released in 1961, this a smoky, jazzy duet typical of its time, telling the story of two star-crossed lovers, one in Tokyo and one in Ginza. It was an immediate hit, even having a movie based upon it made, starring Ishihara-san in the lead role. It's a staple duet in karaoke even to this day.
Nakanaide
Tumblr media
泣かないで - "Don't Cry" 舘ひろし - Tachi Hiroshi mp3 download || youtube
The song that the random selector spits up for Subaru to sing, which Sei-chan subsequently picks up after sending him off to buy cigarettes/exorcise the OL. This was released in 1984, by Tachi Hiroshi, a singer and actor who became quite the sensation when he had a starring role in 西部警察 (Seibu Keisatsu; "Western Police") -- incidentally, directed by the abovementioned Ishihara-san, as you'd have it. "Nakanaide" was a hit, coming in 59th on the ORICON's 1984 top singles list. It's from his seventh album In the Mood.
Nanpasen
Tumblr media
難破船 - "Shipwreck" 中森明菜 - Nakamori Akina m4a download || youtube
The song that the OL ghost sings. A dark and heartfelt song about a dying love, it was a massive hit when it was released in 1987, shooting straight to the top of the ORICON charts (as Nakamori-san's 17th number one hit), and has been a karaoke regular since then, just as the OL says in the chapter. Originally written and performed by the very respected Kato Tokiko for her 最後のダンスパーティ (Saigo no Dance Party; "Last Dance Party") album of 1984; she personally requested that Nakamori-san perform the song. It's been covered countless times, including by the original singer/songwriter and the cover artist themselves.
Daite...
Tumblr media
抱いて… - "Hold Me..." 松田聖子 - Matsuda Seiko mp3 download || youtube
Not actually sung, but the OL ghost suggests she'd like to sing it next. A dramatic and emotional slice of idol pop from the Eternal Idol herself, Matsuda Seiko (who also performs "Who's That Boy", found on Single White). Released in 1987 as a promo-only single from her fifteenth studio album, 1988's Citron. Despite never being released as an official single, it's one of Matsuda's more popular songs, especially karaoke-wise. It's rather interesting that the OL picks a Matsuda song directly after a Nakamori Akina track -- the pair were notorious rivals in the 80s, supposedly even in love.
Benkyo no Uta
Tumblr media
勉强の歌 - "Study Song" 森高千里 - Moritaka Chisato mp3 download || youtube
The song Hokuto is singing when Subaru attempts to sneak back into the karaoke box. Released in 1991, it peaked at #4 on the ORICON charts, and was remixed on Moritaka's second remix album as ザ・勉強の歌 (Za・Benkyo no Uta; "The・Study Song"). It was used as the opening theme to the anime TV series "Mischievous Twins: The Tales of St. Clare's". It's a totally gimmicky song (complete with voguing in the very weird video clip), though cheerful and catchy, so its popularity on the karaoke circuit at the time shouldn't surprise anyone. (You just know that Hokuto unironically adored this song, and drove Subaru batty by singing it at every opportunity.)
Wakaretemo Suki na Hito
Tumblr media
別れても好きな人 - "Beloved Even if We're Separated" ロス・インディオス&シルヴィア - Los Indios & Silvia mp3 download || youtube
The song that Hokuto announces Subaru should sing with Seishirou as punishment for being late. Another staple in the duets section of karaoke, still, this 1979 release was actually a cover. The song was released by two Toshiba EMI artists, Matsudaira Kemeko and the Purple Shadows, respectively, in 1969. In October 1975, Los Indios released a single-voice version, and in 1979 it was rearranged as a male and female duet, with some lyrics changed slightly. The song was an instant hit, and by 1980, it had sold a million copies.

Dolly Parton - Jolene 1973
Dolly Parton is an American singer-songwriter, actress, and philanthropist. With a career spanning over fifty years, Parton has been described as a country legend and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. She has had 25 singles reach no. 1 on the Billboard country music charts, a record for a female artist (tied with Reba McEntire). She has 44 career Top 10 country albums, a record for any artist, and she has 110 career-charted singles over the past 40 years. She has composed over 3,000 songs. She has founded a number of charitable and philanthropic organizations, chief among them is the Dollywood Foundation, which manages a number of projects to bring education and poverty relief to East Tennessee where she grew up. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Parton donated $1 million towards research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, which funded the critical early stages of development of the Moderna vaccine.
"Jolene" was released on October 15, 1973, as the first single and title track from her the thirteenth solo studio album Jolene, and became Parton's second solo number one single on the country charts. "Jolene" became Parton's first top ten hit song in the UK, reaching number seven in the UK Singles Chart in 1976. It also re-entered the chart when Parton performed at the Glastonbury festival in 2014.
According to Parton, the song was inspired by a red-headed bank clerk who flirted with her husband, Carl Dean, at his local bank branch around the time they were newly married. In an interview, she also revealed that Jolene's name and appearance are based on that of a young fan who came on stage for her autograph.
During an interview on The Bobby Bones Show in 2018, Parton revealed that she wrote "Jolene" on the same day that she wrote "I Will Always Love You".
"Jolene" was nominated for the Grammy Awards for Best Female Country Vocal Performance twice, in 1975 and 1976. The first nomination was for the original recording, and the second was for a live recording from the TV series In Concert. It did not win either time, but in 2017, a cover by the a cappella group Pentatonix which featured Parton as a guest singer won the Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
In 2023 she released her forty-ninth solo studio album, Rockstar, a collaborative project with a variety of rock musicians and where "Jolene" is sung by Italian rockband Måneskin, listen to it here!
"Jolene" received a total of 94,3% yes votes!
